Blackstone Minerals Limited (BSX) is a leading battery and precious metals exploration and development company. BSX is focused on development of its integrated Ta Khoa nickel mine and refinery projects in Norther Vietnam.  The Ta Khoa Nickel Project (TKNP) incorporates multiple open pit and underground deposits which will be process through the existing Ban Phuc concentrator, or a new purpose built 6 to 8Mtpa new concentrator.  The Ta Khoa Refinery (TKR) receives the concentrate produced by the concentrator, as well as concentrates from third party sources, to produce and advanced P-CAM product for delivery into the burgeoning EV market.


Headquartered in Perth, Western Australia, Blackstone also owns a large land holding at the Gold Bridge project within the BC porphyry belt in British Columbia, Canada with large scale drill targets prospective for high grade gold-cobalt copper mineralisation.

Primary Function

Reporting to the Group Mining Engineer,  the role of  Senior Mining Engineer is responsible for supporting strategic mine planning for Blackstone Projects, developing mine designs and schedules, supporting optimisation, and working with external consultants and engineering contractors to support each phase of Blackstone Projects.

  • Development of practical, detailed, pragmatic mine designs which incorporate drill and blasting designs/ concepts.

  • Deliver Mine planning and scheduling with considerations to optimisation (strategic, tactical)

  • Working with other Mine Technical associates to ensure reserve estimates are following First principals mine cost modelling and auditable economic evaluations.

  • Mentor upcoming professionals and peers implement mine planning design and forecast analysis tasks in accordance with project specifications

  • Assist (mentor) Operational leaders to implement design/ plans and monitor for to ensure value is added and achieved, this may also include advise on drilling, dewatering and MWD management. 

  • Where requested, undertake short term secondments for site coverage in either an engineering or senior mine management role

  • Assist in development of mining contracts and monitor the work of contractors involved in mining project work from studies to project execution,

  • Write investigative reports, field reports to aid inspections and audits, contributes to studies for future projects.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Mining Engineering

  • 8+ years’ practical experience in open pit mine design, development and/or operation

  • Additional technical qualification or experience in underground mine design and/or (surface) Geotechnical and/or Blast Engineering and/or Survey highly regarded

  • Additional supporting qualification in Project Management highly regarded

  • Quarry Manager or similar certification highly regarded

  • Demonstrates high acumen in how to apply health, safety, and sustainability to design work and modelling.

  • Expert in open pit mine optimization (Whittle preferred), and mine design and scheduling software user (Deswik preferred),

  • Experience with mining enterprise optimization highly regarded

  • Ability to build networks and relationships with key stakeholders across multiple sites and cultures

  • Proven capability to operate in a complex environment, leading, influencing, and facilitating diverse teams

  • Team player who actively collaborates and encourages innovation with demonstrated coating and mentoring ability.

  • Proven ability to deliver within short timeframes, competing priorities and re-prioritised outputs
